Fighting Childhood Cancer - GRAACC

The GRAACC - Grupo de Apoio ao Adolescente e à Criança com Câncer (Support Group for Children and Adolescents with Cancer) - is a nonprofit brazilian institution, established to ensure that children and adolescents with the right to access all the chances of cure with quality of life in the most advanced scientific standard . The hospital conducts monthly GRAACC about 2,500 calls between chemotherapy sessions, consultations, outpatient procedures, surgery, bone marrow transplants and others. In addition to diagnosing and treating childhood cancer, GRAACC works in the development of teaching and research.

The GRAACC was born in 1991, thanks to initiative of Dr. Sergio Petrilli, head of Oncology Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, engineer volunteer Jacinto Antonio Guidolin and Mrs. Lea Della Casa Mingione, volunteer at the Cancer Hospital.

The first step was to transfer the Division of Pediatric Oncology, Hospital Sao Paulo for a house, which became known as the "house". Younger patients were seen at that location, within the concept of day hospital where they received medical attention and care and returned to their homes.

Based on university partnership / company / community GRAACC awakened in companies and institutions with a broad vision social confidence and interest in participating in the construction of the Pediatric Oncology Institute - IOP, the hospital's GRAACC.

In May 1998, that dream becomes reality. It built a modern hospital nine floors and two basements, at 4,200 square meters, specializing in the care of children and adolescents with cancer.

Today, the hospital is managed and administered by GRAACC and medical care, teaching and research are conducted in partnership with the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP / EPM).

Annually, the GRAACC is audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Since 2008, volunteering to GRAACC is certified with ISO 9001.
